ASAEH MISSION STATEMENT

The Association of South Asia Environmental Historians exists to promote the understanding, through scholarly dialogue and discourse, of the interaction of people and nature in history, humanity’s transformation of the natural world over time, both benefits and repercussions, and the natural world’s impact on people. Environmental history incorporates many academic facets and crosses numerous academic disciplines: The humanities, the sciences, and the social sciences are all integral components. Environmental historians come from such diverse fields as physical geography, historic climatology, forestry and forest history, agricultural history, water history, hydrology, biology, zoology, philosophy, and environmental science.
